Restore your cracked dashboard

How to Repair a Cracked Car Dash A cracked car dash can be an eyesore and a safety hazard. If the crack is large enough, it could allow moisture to seep into the dashboard and cause further damage. If you're not comfortable repairing the crack yourself, you can take your car to a professional. However, if you're handy and have some basic tools, you can repair the crack yourself with a few simple steps.

Materials Needed:

  • A heat gun

  • A putty knife

  • A can of dashboard repair kit

  • Sandpaper

  • A clean cloth

Instructions:

  1. Clean the area around the crack with a damp cloth.

  2. Use the heat gun to warm the area around the crack. This will make the plastic more pliable and easier to work with.

  3. Use the putty knife to apply the dashboard repair kit to the crack. Be sure to smooth out the repair kit so that it is flush with the surface of the dashboard.

  4. Allow the repair kit to dry completely. This may take several hours.

  5. Once the repair kit is dry, sand the area smooth with sandpaper.

  6. Wipe away any sanding dust with a clean cloth.

  7. Apply a coat of clear coat to the repaired area. This will protect the repair from UV rays and other damage.

Tips:

  • If the crack is large, you may need to apply multiple coats of the dashboard repair kit.

  • Be sure to follow the instructions on the dashboard repair kit carefully.

  • If you're not comfortable repairing the crack yourself, you can take your car to a professional.

Warnings:

  • Do not use a heat gun if the dashboard is made of vinyl.

  • Do not apply the dashboard repair kit to a hot dashboard.

  • Do not sand the dashboard too much, or you could damage the surface.

  • Do not apply too much clear coat, or it could cloud the dashboard.
